On 27 December 2008 Israel launched an aerial bombardment of the Gaza Strip, followed by a ground invasion a week later. The violence continued for 22 days, until a temporary ceasefire was put in place on 18 January.
Our partners wasted no time in responding to the crisis. From medical relief to food distribution and counselling for children, this photo gallery shows them at work, getting help to the worst affected.
Yet, two months on, Israel’s blockade of Gaza’s borders is severely impeding the humanitarian response.

Christian Aid partners have been focusing on providing aid to the most vulnerable, including people who have lost their houses, livestock and crops. Two months on, the Israeli blockade of Gaza means that insufficient amounts of cement and concrete are getting in to enable people to rebuild their homes.
