Strangford Sportive Cycle

Another spectacular day for Christian Aid's Strangford Sportive

On Saturday 30 September, Christian Aid welcomed over 250 cyclists to pedal against poverty at our fifth Strangford Sportive.

The day was a tremendous success, raising approximately £7,000 towards the work of Christian Aid in some of the world’s poorest communities.

Cyclists travelled from all across the island of Ireland to Delamont Country Park to participate in the event, and enjoyed beautiful views of sunny County Down as they took on their choice of the three routes (40km, 80km or 120km).

A huge thank you from Christian Aid (and all those who needed their assistance along the way) must go to The Bike House, who were on hand with their support vehicle and expertise to fix any technical issues faced by our cyclists whilst out on the road!

We are also extremely grateful to our volunteers who helped to marshal, register participants, assist with refreshments, run the barbecue, lent their premises and equipment - and many other unseen tasks.

Thank you also to the three local churches who hosted our refreshment stops, Raffrey Presbyterian Church, Ballee Non-subscribing Presbyterian Church of Ireland and Killough Church of Ireland.

Our event photographer was Simon Hutchinson Photography, who captured the day wonderfully - visit our Facebook album for a glimpse of the day!

The event was organised by our invaluable and dedicated Strangford Sportive Volunteer Committee, who to date have raised over £47,000 towards the work of Christian Aid overseas since the first Strangford Sportive in 2013. Thank you to each member of the committee for their hard work throughout the year to make the event a success.

Poverty Over

Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of dignity, justice, freedom and hope. Christian Aid has a vision: an end to poverty. We believe this vision can become a reality. You support has helped raise much needed funds for our overseas work.
