Supporter raises £400 for Pakistan floods

Meilyr TomosMeilyr Tomos, 21, a supporter from north Pembrokeshire who was born with Downs Syndrome, has once again showed his passion for playing the piano and fundraising by collecting more than £400 for the Pakistan floods appeal.

Meilyr performed in the Churches Together tent during the National Eisteddfod of Wales, and was inspired by the recent stories from Pakistan.

'As soon as I saw the pictures from Pakistan I wanted to help the people who had lost everything in the floods.

'I was already booked to play the keyboard in the Churches Tent so I thought I’d use the oportunity to raise money for the appeal. I was thrilled that I managed to raise more than £400,' said Meilyr.

Meilyr is working over the summer in a restaurant in Pembrokeshire before resuming his final year studies at Derwen College, Oswestry in September.

He was delighted to be performing at the Eisteddfod in Ebbw Vale at the beginning August. 'I would like to thank Christian Aid for organising the performance.

'I have been a supporter of Christian Aid since I was a little boy, and I know the money will reach the people most in need,' he added.

Jeff Williams, Head of Christian Aid in Wales said, 'Meilyr is an inspirational young man. He is a true friend of Christian Aid and over the years has inspired others to support the organisation as well.

'His enthusiasm and energy for helping others is completely infectious. It is an honour to work alongside him.'
