Russell Jones, the effervescent presenter of the popular Welsh-language television series, Byw yn yr Ardd, is visiting Kenya and Tanzania with Branwen Niclas of Christian Aid.
Russell will learn how people grow their own food and keep animals on meagre resources. His journey will be filmed for a special S4C series 'Byw yn y Byd' to be broadcast in February.
Russell is extremely excited about what he calls 'the biggest adventure of my life'.
'I am looking forward to seeing how people grow vegetables and keep chickens out there. I'm sure I’ll learn a lot from them.'
'I have never travelled so far before, and I'm not sure what to expect. It will be a strange feeling to leave the chickens and the vegetable patch in Rhosgadfan (his home in North Wales), let alone Jen and Bleddyn (his wife and young son). This will be the first time for me to spend more than a weekend away from home.'

Joining Russell on the journey is Branwen Niclas of Christian Aid. They will be visiting several Christian Aid partner projects, which help people to be self-sufficient in very dry and arid conditions.
Russell says, 'I know that their circumstances are difficult, and it will be very interesting to see how they cope. I hope the series will be an eye opener for us all. It's silly that people buy vegetables which are grown in poor countries when they have enough soil to grow their own at home!'
