The patron of this year’s Christian Aid Book Sale will be the celebrated novelist and essayist, Andrew O’Hagan. The generosity of living Scots writers is an important feature of the Sale.
The first Book Sale was held in 1974 and since then £1.7 million has been raised at the George Street church for Christian Aid, which gives relief wherever there is suffering, disaster or famine.
The annual Christian Aid Book Sale at St Andrew's and St George's Church, Edinburgh, will open at 10am on Saturday 9 May and continue from Monday 11 May to Friday 15 May (excluding Sunday 10 May).
O’Hagan’s novel Be Near Me has been adapted for the stage, and the production of the play by the National Theatre of Scotland is currently on tour (Citizens’, Glasgow, until 4 April; Eden Court, Inverness, 7-11 April; and Traverse, Edinburgh 15-18 April).
ANDREW O’HAGAN will be at St Andrew's and St George's Church, Edinburgh, on Thursday 2 April at 1pm. He is to present autographed copies of two of his books: A Night Out with Robert
Burns and The Atlantic Ocean: Essays on Britain and America, which includes his celebrated short story After Hurricane Katrina.
Notes to Editors: Media are invited to attend at 1pm on Thursday 2 April when Andrew O’Hagan will be at St Andrew's and St George's Church, George Street, Edinburgh, making his presentation.
