Christian Aid Scotland welcomes overseas aid pledge

November 17 2010

Christian Aid Scotland today (17 November 2010) warmly welcomes the Scottish Government’s pledge to maintain the International Development Fund of £9 million into 2011/12.

Kathy Galloway, head of Christian Aid Scotland, said: 'We are very aware of the difficult decisions that have to be taken during this spending review, and warmly welcome the Scottish Government’s decision to retain its international aid budget in this tough economic climate.

‘This will be welcome news for our partners in Malawi, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh who currently receive funding from the Scottish Government for their work towards eradicating poverty. Both in the immediate aftermath of natural disasters, and in working through long term development areas such as HIV/AIDS, money from the Scottish Government continues to help lift people out of poverty.

'Scotland has a long and rightly proud history of looking after those who have the least; we are pleased that the Scottish Government has continued this today.'
