December 17

Isaiah 61, 1-2

Something to read

The spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me;
he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed,
to bind up the broken-hearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and release to the prisoners;
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.

Something to think about

Time of favour is here proclaimed. If we need favour or want to draw benefits from this favourable season, then let us read the Word and trust it.

The Lord is concerned about our various situations and His Spirit is at work for change to good or better. The freedom and the favour we need are in the Lord.

In the Gospel of John we can read: 'The Word became flesh and dwelt among us…' (John 1:14). We are in Christmas mood and people are busy getting ready for the celebrations. They say that Christmas is for sharing (gifts), which is true.

The fact is this: that we receive from God the Father the son Jesus as His gift to the whole world. Jesus is the one who opens this season of favour, of freedom and wellbeing to all people (Luke 4:18).

Something to do

To participate in the sharing of the season and have your blessing (there is more blessing in giving than in receiving), find out with a family how you can contribute for them to have the gift they really need.

Something to pray

Heavenly Father
We thank you for your precious gift to us
In your son Jesus Christ
Help us to well receive him
To cherish him and especially
Give us to understand his message to the world
In order for us to become givers as well. Amen!
