About us

Christian Aid Week collector

Christian Aid has a vision – an end to poverty – and we believe that vision can become a reality.

Christian Aid is a Christian organisation that insists the world can and must be swiftly changed to one where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty.

We work globally for profound change that eradicates the causes of poverty, striving to achieve equality, dignity and freedom for all, regardless of faith or nationality. We are part of a wider movement for social justice.

We provide urgent, practical and effective assistance where need is great, tackling the effects of poverty as well as its root causes.

Our team in Scotland lives out these aims and values in the distinctive political and cultural context of Scottish society.

Our supporters and supporting churches

The Advisory Committee for Scotland acts as a reference group for the work of Christian Aid Scotland.

We're one of Scotland's largest voluntary organisations with thousands of individual supporters and hundreds of volunteer groups based in individual supporting churches or groups of churches.

Our two Scottish offices assist our supporters and supporting churches to fundraise, campaign and pray throughout the year, but especially in Christian Aid Week.

Christian Aid Week, which takes place in May each year, raises over £1.5 million in Scotland, almost £1 million of which comes from our famous house-to-house collections. A wide range of other fundraising and sponsored events and church collections make up the remaining portion.

Our supporters also work hard fundraising throughout the rest of the year, both for our long-term development work and for our emergency appeals.

As well as this voluntary income, Christian Aid is currently carrying out several projects in Malawi and a joint one across India and Bangladesh thanks to significant funding from the Scottish Government's International Development Fund.

To end poverty, we need to challenge its causes, not just its symptoms.

To do this, Christian Aid Scotland takes Christian Aid's UK campaigns to audiences in Scotland and works with partners in Scotland to influence our own decision-makers too.

We currently focus our campaigning energy on climate justice and tax justice.

Partnership is central to the way that Christian Aid works, not just with our sponsoring churches.

Christian Aid Scotland is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee in Scotland, an alliance of aid agencies that co-ordinates emergency response to large-scale disasters, most recently in response to the Ebola crisis in West Africa and the Nepal Earthquake.

Christian Aid Scotland also works with a number of other organisations including Stop Climate Chaos Scotland , Eco-Congregation Scotland  and Take One Action .
