Christian Aid and our sponsoring churches in Scotland

Celtic cross

Our sponsoring churches in Scotland support Christian Aid during Christian Aid Week, and throughout the year, enabling individual churches and supporters to give, act and pray on behalf of the partners and communities with which Christian Aid works.

Sponsoring churches in Scotland

Christian Aid Scotland works in close partnership with the Church of Scotland especially through its World Mission Council and Church and Society Council. We are also presently working with the Guild on one of its six current projects.

The Scottish Episcopal Church (SEC) is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, with seven historic dioceses covering the whole of Scotland, and also works closely with Christian Aid.

The SEC recently entered into a partnership with the United Reformed Church (URC) and the Methodist Church in Scotland. These two churches are the Scottish expression of UK-wide churches.

Though comparatively small in numbers they share the same commitment to social justice as their counterparts in the rest of the UK.

The URC also has its own link to Christian Aid through its Commitment for Life scheme.

Scotland's ecumenical body is Action of Churches Together in Scotland (ACTS).

The Congregational Federation, the Religious Society of Friends in Britain (Quakers), the Salvation Army and the United Free Church of Scotland are all members of ACTS and though smaller in number, are long-established and play an important role in Scottish church life. They are all sponsoring churches of Christian Aid.

The Baptist Union of Scotland with around 14,000 members, is not part of ACTS (nor of the Baptist Union of Great Britain) but is a sponsoring church of Christian Aid in its own right.
