Philippines: an urban reality

More than one billion people live in urban slums around the world. In the Philippines, these are often overcrowded, polluted and dangerous with little access to water and sanitation.

Relocation sites often have few services and little income earning opportunities, so people try and stay within the captial, Manila, where they can earn a living and support their families.

Christian Aid partners, Urban Poor Associates and Unlad Kabayan, work in Manila's slums giving communities help to access services, earn a living and campaign for secure housing. Whilst life remains tough, poor communities are increasingly being given a voice to bring about change.
