To mark World Malaria Day (Sunday 25 April 2010), Christian Aid produced this photogallery to highlight the disease which is one of the world's biggest killers.
Winifred, 14, is part of Christian Aid’s Orphans and Vulnerable Children programme in Nigeria because she is living with HIV. Being less able to fight off illnesses, Winifred often used to catch malaria, meaning that she would regularly miss school. But since using a treated mosquito net, she has been able to go to school every day and her school marks have improved. ‘I can keep up with my school work better,’ says Winifred. ‘I sometimes get 90% or 100% in tests whereas I used to fail them.’ PHOTO: Christian Aid/Rachel Stevens
