Alongside the carnage and horror of Haiti’s earthquake on 12 January 2010, there came brighter moments of hope.
One of these was the way in which Haiti’s neighbour, the Dominican Republic, responded to the needs of Haitians affected by the devastating quake.
Haiti and Dominican Republic share a long and bloody history of mistrust and prejudice. Despite this, Dominicans flooded into Haiti after the earthquake, helping pull people from the rubble and providing food and tents to those who had lost everything.
This photogallery tells the story of the work of our Dominican Republic partner SSID, that has been working in two settlement camps in Haiti since the earthquake.
