World Water Day

23 March 2011

Running water is something we take for granted. But on this World Water Day, one in eight of the world’s population still does not have access to clean drinking water. Drought, water mismanagement, flooding, and climate change are just some of the causes of water shortages.

These issues, and lack of safe sanitation, result in more than two million people dying from water-related diseases every year. Now, one in two people on the planet live in a city, and nearly 40% of the world’s urban expansion is growing slums.

One of the central problems is the management of urban water and waste. Christian Aid works through our partners to ensure that globally people living in urban and rural areas have the basic right to water.
