Every prayer, every gift, every action brings hope to people in crisis

What’s happening in the Middle East?

  • 72,000

    72,000 Palestinians have been killed.

  • 2

Nearly two million people have been displaced, forced to face famine and disease in overcrowded shelters.

  • 250,000

A quarter of a million children are expected to face severe malnutrition this year.

Food shortages in Gaza

Following the escalation of the conflict across the Middle East in February 2026, when Israel and the US launched air strikes on Iran, people in Gaza said they feared running out of food. With most crossings closed, the price of goods doubled in days.

Violence increasing in the West Bank

With attention elsewhere, reports of Israeli armed settler violence against Palestinians increased immediately in the West Bank, according to Israeli human rights group B'Tselem, a Christian Aid partner.

Displacement in Lebanon

Christian Aid partners in Lebanon said so many people had been displaced due to Israeli bombing and evacuation orders that there was ‘no space left in Beirut's shelters’. They said it was impossible to evacuate priority cases, such as older people with disabilities and chronic health issues.

Lebanon does not have enough resources to help everyone who has been displaced. Even before the recent escalation, 874,000 people in Lebanon lacked food. Many will not be able to return to their homes for many months, if at all.

Our partners across the Middle East need our support more than ever as they rapidly assess how they can best help those affected and scale-up their work.

Ultimately, a sustainable peace is not possible until the occupation of Gaza, and the West Bank, is ended and Palestinians and Israelis are treated as equals.

How is Christian Aid responding?

Thanks to the generosity of Christian Aid supporters, we’ve raised over £5.3 million to help our local partners deeply rooted in the community. Despite the challenges, they’re delivering aid every day.

1.2 million people have been reached with the vital work of our partners in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon

Our response in Lebanon

Our Lebanon partners Mouvement Social, SIDC and Association Najdeh are supporting displaced people with shelter, cash and essential items.

Mouvement Social provides hot meals, showers and hygiene support in shelters. Najdeh offers cash support, particularly for women at risk, while SIDC provides medical care, psychosocial support and food vouchers.

We are also supporting local organisations Jeyetna and Ahali al Madina, which are providing displaced people with essential items such as mattresses and menstrual hygiene products.

Our response in Gaza

Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS) runs up to 80 mobile health and roadside clinics across Gaza. Culture and Free Thought Association (CFTA) provides emergency food, shelter, community kitchens and psychosocial support for families.

Agricultural Development Association (PARC) is rehabilitating water sources and supporting community agriculture, while Women’s Affairs Centre (WAC) provides dignity kits, baby essentials and support for widows. International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) has created safe spaces and informal education for 350 children.

Our response in the West Bank

PARC and the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) have provided cash and food to Palestinians from Gaza stranded in the West Bank. In Jenin and Tulkarem, PARC has provided mattresses, blankets, food and clothing to displaced families and is piloting community-led cash grants.

PARC and YMCA have also supported farmers during the olive harvest and backed women-led community initiatives including health clinics, school improvements, safer roads and street lighting

Our response in Israel

Christian Aid is working with Zochrot, an Israeli civil society organisation based in Tel Aviv, to provide a safe space for activists to gather for workshops, lectures, discussion and advocacy for a just and peaceful future where equality and human rights for all are realised.

Our partners are deeply rooted in their communities and have therefore been the first responders to this crisis. Our locally-led approach has meant that people have been supported to help themselves, in the absence of a ceasefire and sufficient aid.

Prayer for peace in the Middle East

God, hear our prayers for peace in the Middle East.
May all people in the region be protected, safe from harm.
We pray that this crisis will end now, with no further loss of life.
God, may the injured and distressed know your healing presence.
May the powerful and the decision-makers follow the paths of justice, mercy and peace.
We pray for recognition of the dignity and value of every life.
May the clamour of violence cease,
Replaced by the beating of swords into ploughshares.
God, in your name,
Amen.
