Celebrate Christian Aid Week in your church
The church founded Christian Aid Week to fight for equality, dignity and freedom for everyone. For over 60 years, thousands of churches in Britain and Ireland have come together to give their support each May.
We are motivated by our faith in Christ and a strong belief that every person on earth is a treasured child of God. By holding a church collection this year, you can support vulnerable mums and babies in Sierra Leone.
A lack of healthcare means Sierra Leone is the world’s most dangerous place to become a mum. Tragically, 10 women will die today from giving birth there.
You could help mums like Jebbeh
Jebbeh is pregnant. As her baby grows, it’s not joy that fills her heart but fear. Recently, Jebbeh’s sister, Fatmata, went into labour. With no ambulance available, she had little choice but to walk for three hours to the nearest hospital.
The road was long and Fatmata struggled to keep walking under the baking sun. With every step, she feared for her life and the life of her baby. Sadly, Fatmata never reached the hospital. Jebbeh told us:
Stand together with Jebbeh
As her due date looms closer, Jebbeh fears she could be next. ‘I’m afraid,’ she says. ‘I pray, when that day comes, God will help me to deliver safely, so that I can have a bouncing baby and I’ll be healthy.’
Your kind gift could help pay for more health centres, better hygiene and health training. It could help save the lives of mums like Jebbeh.
