Everyone is equal in the sight of God

Hannah prays, with much to give thanks for. However, she knows that her position is thanks to the grace of God.

It’s easy to forget that much of our wellbeing has come by the fact that we live in one of the wealthiest parts of the world. According to a survey, you are almost certainly in the top 10% of the world’s wealthiest people; if you own a house, included in a combined wealth of over £500,000, then you are in the top 1%.

You and I cannot look on people living in poverty from a position of superiority, as if it is merely our own endeavours that place us where we are. Am I worthy to receive all I have? Who are you to judge who is deserving to receive?

We believe everyone is equal in the sight of God. That gives us a firm commitment to stand together with our vulnerable neighbours, so everyone can have fullness of life.

Father, forgive me for my pride and my presumption that I am owed what I have as a right. Help me to share with my neighbours, and let them uphold their dignity through my support for their endeavours.
